My late husband Ray Phillips worked with David, so I have know both David and Penny since the early 1970s. We often met socially and at office functions, including walking breaks with other colleagues and their wives. We enjoyed holidays with the Mawdsleys - one memorable one was on a canal boat. One morning Penny succeeded in burning the toast, but instead of rushing out on deck to throw the toast overboard, she succeeded in throwing in the rack. Needless to say, the boat hook came in very useful to retrieve it. We also had a problem when one morning we awoke to find the floor of the boat covered in water - the pump had failed!! We had children of similar age to Gareth and Katy and when they were all much younger we enjoyed holidays with the Mawdsleys in Ireland and the Isle of Man.
Penny - thank you for your friendship and support over the years. You will be greatly missed.
Elaine Phillips
